SUMMER FLOWER & VEGETABLE PLANTING The weeks and months leading into early summer are often sunny and pleasant, and many of us use this time to rediscover our gardens and work out how best to use the space. Even if you didn’t take advantage of the perfect spring days to plan and plant your garden, there are plenty of great summer planting options to ensure your outdoor space blooms well into autumn. As well as beautiful flowers, why not experiment with growing your own vegetables this summer? Growing something from seed has always lifted my spirits, and it still always amazes me what can grow from the tiniest seed. And, to get a tasty harvest at the end of your efforts makes the journey all the more worthwhile. A supermarketbought tomato doesn’t compare to a sun-kissed tomato picked straight off the vine and unearthing your first early spuds from a ridge is like finding gold. In this guide, I make some recommendations on preparing your space for vegetable planting, as well as some easy-to-grow ideas. If flowers are more your thing, I also recommend some herbaceous perennials that will keep on blooming well into the autumn months – ensuring your garden is your happy place for the whole summer and beyond.
